BMGA British Matchplay Championships, Round One, Match One

Trevor Robertson first through to round two of BMGA British Matchplay Championships.

The first match in round one of the 2009 BMGA British Matchplay Championships took place at the Jurassic Encounter Adventure Golf Course in New Malden, London on Friday 13th February. Drawn to face each other were Minigolfing brothers Trevor and Martin Robertson, and both were keen to win the match to reach the second round of the competition for the first time.

After the regulation 18-holes of play the score was all square which meant the match would go to a play-off. Both players scored twos on the first three extra holes, but it was at the fourth extra hole that Trevor carded a two following Martin’s four to take the win one-up (3-2 in holes won).

Commenting on his win Trevor Robertson said “It was a brilliant game, and Martin was really tough to get past. He had only played the course once before, so to score a 39 on only his second round was pretty good going. Martin played really well and focused hard. I thought I was doomed on at least three occasions.”

Martin Robertson said “I enjoy the Matchplay Competition, for me it’s the epitome of the BMGA. Yet again, I'm sad I got knocked out in the first round, but the match with Trevor was great. Nip and tuck all the way round. Good luck in the forthcoming rounds bruv.”
